Visit of Panama Canal Pilots

Upon commissioning of the new locks of the Panama Canal as well as widening the navigation channel, Post Panamax Vessels with a beam of 49 m are allowed to pass the Canal. Not only Container Ships with a capacity of 14.000 TEU, but also Tankers and LNG vessels will take the opportunity to develop new routes and trades. Particularly for the growing LNG trades the new Panama Canal is very interesting. In the near future the first large LNG vessels will arrive and use the Canal. In order to prepare for this event Pilots from Panama have been visiting MTC in Hamburg to learn more about safety and manoeuvreability of large LNG vessels
