During July 2016 MTC has undertaken a major upgrade of the shiphandling simulator. In December 2015 MTC and Rheinmetall Defence Electronics in Bremen signed a contract to install the new simulator model ANS 6000. After a delivery time of 6 months the new hardware and software, all instructor and debriefing stations, all computers on the 6 bridges and all cables were installed during a short “off-hire” period of only two weeks in July. After completion of the installation work the simulator was recommissioned and the training program could be resumed as usual. During July 2017 the visual system of the simulator will be changed to the new model “DISI Extreme” in order to have the modern equipment available for the coming years.
