Objectives

  • To understand the specific manoeuvreabilities of ships with POD propulsion
  • To understand the principles of POD propulsion
  • To understand the effects of wind, current, shallow water, banks and narrow channels
  • To carry out an anchor manoeuvre on an ordered position under the influence of wind and current
  • To berth and un-berth a passenger vessel under the influence of wind and current in co-operation with a pilot
  • To establish a proper working bridge team and co-operation with pilot during
    river navigation

Entry standards

Masters, nautical officers of passenger vessels and other vessels with POD propulsion

Certification

On successful completion the participant will receive a certificate of MTC

Facilities

Ship Handling Simulator, classroom,
Models: passenger vessel with POD, 281 m length, tanker 146m length (single pod)
