Description

The course is practical and theoretical and consists of exercises performed in the ship handling simulator. Classroom lectures, to provide the necessary theoretical background for the exercises, are inluded. The exercises increase in complexity as the course progresses and as trainees become familiar with the manoeuvering characteristics of a passenger vessel and its response to engine and helm in various conditions.

Objectives

  • To understand the effects of wind, current, shallow water, banks and narrow channels
  • To carry out anchor manoeuvers under the influence of current and wind
  • To carry out a river/canal passage
  • To carry out berthing/un-berthing manoeuvers with and without use of tugs
  • To establish a proper working bridge team

Masters, nautical officers

Certification

On successful completion the participant will receive a certificate of MTC
