Description

The course is practical and theoretical and consists of exercises performed on a ship handling simulator. Classroom lectures, to provide the necessary theoretical background for the exercises, are included. The exercises increase in complexity as the course progresses and as trainees become familiar with the manoeuvering characteristics of the
ship model and its response to the engine and helm in various conditions. Depending on the number and kind of participants various ship’s types can be used and the course can be tailored to individual requirements.

Objectives

The following subjects will be covered:

  • To understand the effects of wind, current, shallow water, baks and narror channels
  • To carry out anchor manoeuvers under the influence of current and wind
  • To carry out a river/canal passage
  • To carry out berting/un-berthing manoeuvers with and without use of tugs
  • To establish a proper working bridge team

Masters, nautical officers

Certification

On successful completion the participant will receive a certificate of MTC
