Description
The course is practical and theoretical and consists of exercises performed on a ship handling simulator. Classroom lectures, to provide the necessary theoretical background for the exercises, are inluded. The exercises i ncrease i n complexity as the course progresses and as trainees become familiar with the manoeuvering characteristics of a Container Vessel up to 400m in length and its response to engine and helm in various conditions.
Objectives
  • To understand the effects of wind, current, shallow water, baks and narror channels
  • To carry out anchor maneuvers under the influence of current and wind
  • To carry out a river/canal passage
  • To carry out berting/un-berthing maneuvers with and without use of tugs
  • To establish a proper working bridge team

Masters, nautical officers
Certification
On successful completion the participant will receive a MTC certificate
