Polar Basic Training

Our new course Basic Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters launched successfully. It provides essential knowledge and skills for Masters and navigation officers to safely and confidently operate ships in Arctic and Antarctic conditions — beyond the standards of SOLAS and MARPOL.

Qualification:

• Understanding of ice characteristics and areas where different types of ice. • Navigate and manoeuver ships in ice and low temperatures.
• Understand vessel performance in polar conditions.
• Apply safe working practices and emergency procedures.
• Ensure compliance with safety and environmental legislation.
• Prevent pollution in fragile ecosystems.
• Prepare crew for the unique demands of polar operations.
🧭 Training included sessions at MTC Hamburg and hands-on simulation using the Wärtsilä Ship Handling Simulator at NACOS Marine Academy.
